God Humiliates the Proud 7/24/2011

Anna and the Christ Child

The story of Anna is consistent with the principle Paul described in 1 Cor 1:26-29. God has chosen the foolish, weak, lowborn and worthless (in the eyes of the world) to humiliate the wise, mighty, noble and significant (again, in the eyes of the world). Anna is a climactic figure in this humiliation. She was old, a widow, a prophet and, she was a woman. She wasn't even from Judea. She belonged to the remote and degenerate tribe of Asher. Yet, she was favored by God, exalted above the nobility who viewed themselves as wise mighty and significant. Truly, no flesh will glory in God's presence.
