Christ's Yoke of Discipleship Pt 2 7/20/2014

The Mission of the Church

At the end of Matthew 11, Jesus gives a call to discipleship. The context leading up that call sets the tone for His declaration. Despite the momentary wavering of John the Baptist's faith and the outright unbelief of many of the Jews, Christ's redemptive purpose will not be thwarted. Before giving the call to discipleship, we find that, regardless of the people's response, God is in control. He hides His revelation from the wise and reveals it to little children. Thus, the call to "come unto me" is not given to everyone indiscriminately but those who are weary and heavy laden - those prepared to receive that revelation and the relief the Savior affords to His disciples.
