In Christ’s prayer (John 17:3) our Lord says, “This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” In the context, God's glory is revealed by Christ in the cross in which eternal is afforded all whom the Father gives to Him. Knowing God and the Christ who reveals Him is eternal life. This is not a mere ascertaining of facts. Nor is it some ambiguous, emotional knowledge, founded in one’s imagination. This is a knowledge of God as He has revealed Himself in the Christ of the cross, a recognition of God’s glory displayed in the redemption of His people. Some see the cross as foolishness while others are offended at the sight. Only those who see the glory of God in the cross and put their trust in Him have eternal life.
