Longing for Our Homeland 5/30/2021

Philippians

In Phil 3:20, Paul says “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ…” In Scripture, a citizen refers to one who belongs to a “city” (a politically organized governing society). The primary citizenship of those in Christ is heaven. From the Fall onward, there is a division between the city of God and the city of man. God’s people are a sojourning people looking for the heavenly city whose designer and architect is God (Heb 11:10,16). Like Abraham, we cannot be satisfied with this world as we long for the homeland God promised (Heb 11:14)
