Disciples Attain Righteousness 10/5/2014

The Mission of the Church

The point of discipleship is to mend our sin fractured relationship with God. Discipleship is based on the covenant of redemption established by Him. The objective is to learn the means by which we might be rendered acceptable to God. The scribes and pharisees mistakenly believed that the Law of God was given to render men righteous before Him. Rabbi's disciples were encouraged to trust in their own efforts. However, as Paul explains in Romans 3, the purpose of the Law was to expose our sin and highlight our need for Christ. The disciple of Jesus learns that he attains righteousness by grace through faith in the Savior's work alone. Christ's righteousness becomes the disciple's righteousness.
