Christ came to reverse the desecrating effects of the fall on both creation and humanity. The possessed man in the country of the Gerasenes was reduced to a subhuman state by the forces of darkness.  This serves as a vivid illustration of Satan's agenda to efface the image of God in mankind. Jesus, arriving in enemy territory, confronts and overpowers a legion of demons, restoring order where chaos reigned. This miracle is presented as the second in a series of four, each demonstrating Christ's comprehensive authority over the consequences of sin, from the corruption of nature to the corruption of humanity itself. Christ came as the second Adam to accomplish what the first Adam failed to do, reconciling all things to God and ultimately defeating the prince of darkness.
