In Ephesians 4, Paul admonishes the church to mature together in unity. Our unity is in the objective truth of God’s Word. He warns against remaining children who are blown off course by every wind of doctrine. He includes “deceitful schemes” which is literally, “erroneous methods.” Christians must be wary, not only of blatant cults but theological fads that adopt “methods that lead astray.” Many American evangelicals seem to have an appetite for the sensational looking for a “quick fix” from the “next big thing.” True growth in unity will only come by consistently availing ourselves of the means of grace God ordained.
