When you hear the phrase, “For God so loved,” your mind likely goes to John 3:16. However, if we understanding the eternal, ever-circulating love within the Trinity, it becomes clear that the phrase can stand alone. “For God so loved” is the reason for everything. In the case of John 3:16, the verse speaks, not of a lovely world that elicited love from God but a glorious God whose greatness of love is seen in bestowing love upon a wretched, rebellious world.
