The Worthlessness of Worry 8/1/2021
PhilippiansIn Philippians 4:6, Paul says, “Do not be anxious for anything.” The word “anxious” means, “to fret or worry.” It refers to the apprehensive and tormenting state of mind that’s obsessively occupied with the uncertainty of problems or perils whether actual or potential. As Christ points out in the Sermon on the Mount, worry is powerless to effect and change and it issues forth from the sin of unbelief. Since God is Sovereign and loves His people, it is irrational and worthless for the Christian to worry. As Psalm 127 tells us, if God has ordained our success, prudence and diligence is all that is required. Losing sleep because of worry is vain.
