The comfort God offers His people in Isaiah 40:1-2 is the coming Messiah. Jesus Himself is God's tender word of salvation, the consolation He affords to a people distanced from Him because of sin. By offering Himself as the once for all sacrifice for us, Jesus cancels our debt of sin, ending our warfare with the Holy God of heaven and earth. This is the Good News of Christ's coming.
