In John 17:18, Jesus says that, as the Father sent Him into the world, He sends His disciples into the world. In the context of this prayer we find that we once belonged to the world. But the Father has given us TO the Son OUT of the world that we would no longer be OF the world. Christ then sends us back INTO the world as strangers and pilgrims who are witnesses to the transforming power of the Gospel.
