When Jesus commissioned His disciples, He authorized them to proclaim the Gospel and bring the nations into a relationship with the Triune God. However, despite assertions by some popular televangelists of our day, Jesus did not relinquish His authority and put it in the hands of His people. The authority given the disciples is for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom and the focus is on eternal salvation, not material blessings. Even in the sphere of Gospel preaching, the apostles did not attempt an independent exercise of authority but looked to Christ to exercise His authority.
