In Ephesians 5, Paul characterizes sexual immorality, all impurity, filthy speech, foolish talk and crude joking as the product of a covetous, idolatrous heart. Covetousness is a strong craving for self-gratification that demands satisfaction from creation that only the Creator can give. Such behavior and speech is inappropriate for the Christian and should not even be rumored among God’s people.
