Habakkuk’s theophanic vision of God coming to judge sin and save His people portrays God’s omnipotence with graphic images. Though God is veiling His power, rays of brilliant glory shine forth from His hands, enveloping all of creation. His power in judgment scorches the land with burning pestilence before Him and plagues are left in His wake. Creation trembles before Him and when He sets His gaze on the nations, they are startled and terrified. God’s power is to be feared. Only those who are in Christ will be able to survive the day of His coming.
