In Ephesians 4:7-10, Paul describes how our unity in Christ is dependent upon the diversity of gifts that Christ gives to each member of the body of Christ. Not only are our particular gifts given for serving the body, Christ makes each one of His people a gift to His Kingdom. God the Son, descended from heaven, assumed human nature and, as the sinless Lamb of God, defeated all rebellious creatures in the cross. When He ascended to take His place on the heavenly throne, He left in His wake a train of captives. The fallen angelic realm was stripped of its power and, from the rebellious mass of humanity, Christ saves the elect of God making them citizens of His Kingdom and members of His family.
