Everything God ordains is for His glory. It is no different with the unity of the saints. Despite the focus of many modern ecumenical movements, our Triune God does not make us one in order to comfort this fallen world in its sin. Jesus prays for our unity that the world may believe that the Father sent Him. In other words, our unity is first and foremost a unity of the truth of the Gospel. We are Christ’s witnesses in this world. The existence of the church is evidence that Jesus is who He claimed to be and accomplished His mission of redemption.
