While the command of the Great Commission is not to "go" but to "make disciples," the fact that such disciples are to be drawn from every nation of the earth necessitates going to those foreign lands. On the question of who must go, there are two extreme views often suggested. Was the necessity of "going" in fulfillment of the command just for the original 11? Or, as others assert, does the necessity of going fall on every individual believer? A proper understanding of the Scripture and a consideration of the historical development of the early church provide a different view.
