In the opening disputation of Malachi, God declares that He has loved His people. Israel responds with skepticism because of their current difficulties. However, the long history of God’s faithfulness with His people shows that He favors His them, suffering long with their unfaithfulness though unwilling to let their sin go unaddressed. Their current difficulties were precisely because of their immorality and disregard for worshipping God as He commanded.
