After Anna gave thanks to God upon seeing the infant Jesus, Luke tells us that she began speaking of Him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. The encounter between the Christ child and Simeon and Anna is a fulfillment of Isaiah 52. Israel's bondage to Rome was simply a picture of her slavery to sin. She needed redemption, not from an oppressive government but from the power of sin. This is what Christ came to provide.
