Discipleship is first and foremost concerned with learning who Christ is and what He has done for His people. In John 17:3, in the context of Christ's glorification (His redemptive work), Jesus defines eternal life as knowing the one true God and the Son whom the Father sent. This knowledge is more than assent, information or feelings. It is the intimate knowledge of participation and communion.
