While "the rapture” gets most of the attention in 1 Thes 4;13-18, that is not the Apostle’s main point. His concerns are pastoral. He is clarifying, encouraging, and comforting the saints concerning those who have died, assuring them that they will be full participants when Christ returns in glory. The Gospel is the basis on which the blessed hope of Christ’s coming rests.
