Paul thanks God for the active faith, expressive love, and patient hope of the fledgling church in Thessalonica. He sees this as evidence that these saints belong to the company of those loved and chosen by God before the foundation of the world. While election and predestination are controversial subjects today, the Scripture clearly teaches that God is sovereign in salvation.
