While Paul uses the standard letter writing format of his day, he redeems it and sanctifies for the glory of God by transferring the emphasis from the letter writer and the recipients to the God who inspired the writer and redeemed the recipients. Paul identifies these new believers as belonging to the church (God’s covenant people) through union with the Father made possible by union with Christ.
