Paul uses familial metaphors to describe his ministry and motives in ministering to the church at Thessalonica. He was as harmless as an infant, and as selfless, protective, loving and nourishing as a mother. Like a father with his children, Paul exhorts, encourages, and urges the saints to live in a manner that is suitable for those whom God has called into His own kingdom for His glory.
