Christ's Effectual Call

Mark's account of Jesus calling and appointing the twelve apostles emphasizes the sovereign nature of His election and His purpose behind their commission. Jesus deliberately chose specific individuals to be with Him, to preach the gospel, and to have authority over demons. While Christ's purpose for the apostles was unique, their election unto salvation was not. Those who have been brought to repentance and believed in the gospel of Christ have been effectually called just like the apostles. Divine election comes not only with salvation but also with a purposeful calling to service that we might glorify God in faithfulness through whatever role He assigns.
