The Servant King Serves
This sermon explores Mark 1:29-39, revealing Jesus as both the authoritative King and the suffering Servant who came, not to be served, but to serve. While Jesus compassionately healed the sick and cast out demons in Capernaum, His primary mission was proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom. Christ's miracles were confirmations of His message, not the main purpose of His ministry. Jesus was committed to communion with the Father through prayer, even prioritizing this over the crowds’ needs and demands. The passage warns against seeking Jesus merely for what He can do for us rather than loving Him for who He is. As Christians, we should serve God and others as Jesus served us. We should serve with gratitude for the eternal salvation He has provided through His atoning work.
